The mission of the Washington University Comprehensive IBD Center of Excellence is to improve quality-of-life for IBD patients regionally and globally through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates world-class patient care with transformative research and education.
We do this by providing comprehensive multi-disciplinary specialty care, access to the latest clinical trials, conducting cutting edge research, and promoting patient and provider education.
The IBD Center’s expertise, combined with the resources of Washington University in St. Louis and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, distinguish us as a first-rate, comprehensive Center of Excellence. The center now cares for more than 3,000 patients with inflammatory bowel disease; has more than 15 current clinical trials; numerous basic, translational, clinical & investigator initiated research projects; and provides Continuing Medical Education (CME) for physicians and healthcare practitioners locally, regionally & nationally; and hosts multiple Advanced & Visiting IBD Fellowships.
Our physicians and nurses have a focus and commitment to the care of patients with IBD. They have vast experience in diagnosing and treating these disorders.
Because of the complexity of the disease, patients with IBD often require care from multiple providers. Patients in our program are able to see a Gastroenterologist and surgeon at the same clinic site, often at the same visit when appropriate. Within the program, we also have a GI trained health psychologist available for appointments. Other resources such as imaging, endoscopy, pathology, and consult services are available at Barnes-Jewish Hospital & Washington University School of Medicine.
